“Wave” is one of the classic songs from the pen of Antonio Carlos Jobim – it poses a challenge to beginning improvisors because of the passing diminished harmony and the moving tensions throughout.
This is an etude that I first composed for a student a long time ago – it’s a good framework for finding the important notes, without feeling overwhelmed by lots of chord changes. In the video below, you can see each chord mapped out on the instrument to help you visualize the notes you want to hit during a solo.
